Jan 16th Worship Guide: Gift and Requirement
Dear DRPC Family,
Both the Old and New Testaments provide clear instruction that God gives to his people a day of rest and requires from his people that same day to be set aside as a day of worship. Gift and requirement. We do not often see these things as the same. Indeed, we can define them as mutually exclusive. But that’s not how God sees it. The truth is that we often do not know what is truly best for us and so God, in his great wisdom and care for us, gifts us a command that is for our good and his glory!
This is how we are to approach the Lord’s Day. In an effort to make the most of today, even as many of us are at home and keeping an eye on the storm, I would strongly urge you to commit to spending time in worship and rest today. Here are some suggestions for a time of family or private worship:
- Old Testament Reading: Psalm 139
- Hymn: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
- Prayer: Confession and thanksgiving
- New Testament Reading: Romans 8
- Hymn: Amazing Grace!
- Prayer: Praise and Supplication
May the Lord grant you grace and joy today as you worship him and spend time in prayer.
As ever,
Pastor Andrew
